What is "Butterfly Effect"?

A Butterfly Effect is a phenomenon in which small local changes in a complex system can have a big impact elsewhere.

Historic Examples of the Butterfly Effect

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand 

 On the 28th of June, 1914, a teenage Bosnian-Serb named Gavrilo Princip went to Sarajevo (capital of Bosnia) with two other nationalists to assassinate the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The initial assassination attempt failed; a grenade exploded beneath the car behind the Archduke’s car and wounded its occupants. The route was supposed to have been changed after that, but the Archduke’s driver didn’t get the message. He had actually taken the alternate route, Princip who had been on the same route as the car, saw Franz Ferdinand's car  and shot Franz and his wife. As a result of this Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, both the countries were joined by their allies thus WW1 has started.  If there wasn't a failure of communication, World War 1 might never have happened.

Henry Tandey's encounter with Adolf Hitler

On 28 September 1918, while Tandey was serving with the 5th Duke of Wellington's Regiment, and relates that a weary German soldier wandered into Tandey's line of fire. The enemy was wounded and did not appear to have a weapon. Tandey chose not to shoot. The German soldier saw him lower his rifle and nodded his thanks before wandering off. That soldier who was to be dead was Adolf Hitler. If Hitler was dead, 20 years later World War 2 might never have happened.

Conclusion

Butterfly Effect teaches us small things matter. Our actions today are the result of previous actions, which may lead to our future actions. Remember, with one small gesture, you can change somebody's life.
